Choose our shared full-circle Road to Hāna tour if you want a full day of waterfalls, coastal views and rainforest with a small group. Choose a private full-circle tour if you want the vehicle and local guide to yourselves. If you’d rather spend part of the day on foot, our private rainforest hike takes you along our family’s trail to a secluded freshwater pond, with time to swim when conditions allow.

Shared or private full-circle Road to Hāna?

Both options follow our reverse full-circle itinerary when road and weather conditions allow. We usually start in Upcountry Maui, continue toward Hāna and return along the rainforest side of the highway. Planned highlights include Wailua Falls, lunch at a flower farm and the black sand beach at Waiʻānapanapa State Park. Along the way, we tell stories about the places we grew up visiting. Our co-owner Doug Chong grew up in Keʻanae, where his family runs the Halfway to Hana stand.

Shared full-circle tour

Book seats in our Platinum Minibus and spend the day with other travelers. This is a good fit for solo travelers, couples and small parties who want a guided look at East Maui without booking an entire vehicle. The minibus has large windows, air conditioning and USB charging in every row.

Private full-circle tour

Choose a private vehicle and guide if you’re traveling with family or friends and want to spend the day together. Our full-circle tour page lists the private Cadillac Escalade and Platinum Minibus options. For a different private outing, our off-road tour pairs a Road to Hāna itinerary with travel on private terrain in a lifted Escalade.

Want more time on foot? Choose the private waterfall hike.

Our private rainforest hike and waterfall swim follows the Road to Hāna as far as our family farm. From there, we walk a trail on our own property to a secluded freshwater pond. This option suits travelers who want the hike to be part of the day’s focus. If swimming is a priority or anyone in your group has questions about the terrain, call us at (808) 264-3374 before booking.

What’s included?

Our full-circle tour and private hike both include:

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off
  • A light breakfast, lunch and beverages

For the full-circle tour, plan to leave the early morning through late afternoon open. Check your chosen tour for current pricing, the pickup location and time, and any details that matter to your group.

Road to Hāna tour FAQs

What does “reverse full circle” mean?

We usually approach Hāna from the Upcountry side and return via the Hāna Highway. That puts the open Upcountry views earlier in the day and the winding rainforest drive later. Weather, road access and park conditions can change the route or stops.

Will I be able to swim?

Swimming depends on conditions. Bring a swimsuit if you’d like to get in the water, and follow your guide’s directions at the beach or freshwater pond. You can still enjoy the stop from shore if you’d rather stay dry.

Do I need a reservation for the black sand beach?

If you’re visiting Waiʻānapanapa State Park on your own from out of state, reserve ahead through the Hawaiʻi Division of State Parks. Commercial tours use a separate reservation process. If you’re booking with us, check the tour details or call us with questions about the planned park stop.

How do I check dates and prices?

Open our booking calendar, select a tour and choose your date to see availability and current pricing. If you’re deciding between a shared seat and a private vehicle, call us at (808) 264-3374 and tell us what your group wants to see and do.
